With deep roots in this area, Jesse Smith has accepted the position of Churchill Athletic Director with a sense of excitement and anticipation in being a part of the CHS community. He brings an extensive background in sports and education to the position. While his official start date is July, he has already begun planning and is getting oriented by Scott Rivinius, our current Athletic Director who is returning to full-time teaching at Churchill to accommodate his family’s schedule.
Jesse is currently a Social Studies teacher at Northwest High School. In addition to teaching, he has been the Assistant Athletic Director at Northwest for the last three years and was the Assistant Athletic Director at Seneca Valley for six years. He coached football for twelve years at Seneca Valley and for two years at Poolesville. He also has experience as an indoor track coach and assistant outdoor track coach. Among his accomplishments, he managed the college recruitment program for Seneca Valley over a ten year period, resulting in over 75 student-athletes having the opportunity to continue in their sports during college.
His focus on education began as a Special Education para-educator in the Montgomery County Public School system and continued as he became a Special Education teacher and now Social Studies teacher. He is going into his fifth year as a teacher and fifteenth year overall in MCPS. He particularly likes encouraging student participation in the classroom, and calls National State and Local Government his favorite class to teach precisely because of the amount of student-teacher interaction in the subject.
He is a longtime Montgomery County resident and graduated from Poolesville High School. He received his B.A. in History from University of Maryland and his Masters in Special Education from Towson. He resides in Gaithersburg with his wife Danielle and daughter Camryn. We look forward to welcoming Jesse, Danielle and Camryn into the Bulldog family!
