Churchill Girls Field Hockey finished their undefeated regular season at the MD State Championships against South River Saturday. The senior girls, Sonya Berinstein, Ashlyn Davis, Jocelyn Kelley, Joanna Kramer, Jenny Langerman, Lauren Lipson, and Sydney Weinstein finished their high school field hockey careers on a high note, as this was the first appearance that the Churchill field hockey team has made in the state finals since 1985. Stat leaders for the season were junior Faith Kean, with 10 goals and 17 assists, senior Jocelyn Kelley, with 7 goals and 17 assists, sophomore Alexandra Sperling, with 13 goals and 1 assist, senior Jenny Langerman with 7 goals and 8 assists, and sophomore Regan Solomon with 6 goals and 8 assists. Junior goalkeeper Juliet Twomey ended the season with 68 saves, and senior Ashlyn Davis and junior Sydney Small both got one defensive save each.
Awards went to Martina Rabade (V) and Cecilia Hu (JV) Most Improved Players, Jocelyn Kelley (V), Faith Kean (V) and Ellie Shein (JV), Offensive MVPs, Juliette Twomey (V) and Emily Feigen (JV) Defensive MVPs and the Coach’s Awards went to Jenny Langerman (V) and Rebecca Schiff (JV).
This year was also the first time in recent years that both JV and Varsity defeated Wootton and Whitman during regular season. With 2 freshman and 4 sophomores on Varsity this year and a strong JV team, Churchill Field Hockey appears poised for many winning seasons to come. Photo Credit: Melanie Twomey
