Baseball season opened up showing off their freshly painted and furnished dugouts. After a slow 0-4 start Varsity Baseball won 8 of the next 12 games highlighted by key wins over River Hill and Einstein to currently stand at a respectable 8-8 with 3 games remaining. Varsity has posted their most wins since 2013 when they won the 4A and advanced to the State semi-finals.
This team has had contributions from all players. The senior pitching tandem of John O’Lone and Corey Eisenberger have been relied upon to eat up innings and they have responded with some clutch performances. Seniors Matt Kupferschmid and Alan Lee have also contributed with solid innings in relief as well.
This team is stockpiled with talented underclassmen so the future projects well. Offensively this Varsity team has produced 95 runs through 16 games with the 5 players (Ethan Rindner (FR), Ben Nardi (SO), Jordan Freeman (JR), Jake Ruben (JR) and Michael Janis (SO) ) sporting a .325 batting average or better. Defensively this team is anchored by Simon Fettig (SO) at shortstop and Michael Janis (SO) in center field both who provide lockdown defense. Other starters Daniel Solbavarro (JR) and Drew Rumfola (JR) have also made significant contributions. Sophomores Matt Rudolph and Will Beller combined to no-hit Richard Montgomery on April 26.
Playoff seedings are to be announced on May 9 and Churchill hopes to make a deep run!
